Draft order and survivor pools
The two common uses are settling a fantasy draft order and picking a team in a survivor pool when you have no strong opinion. For draft order, put the managers’ names on the wheel instead and use “Remove the winner after each spin” to get a full order in one pass.
Narrowing the wheel
Thirty-two slices is a lot, and labels get tight. Delete the teams that are not in play — a single division, the teams still unpicked, or the ones playing this week — and the wheel becomes far easier to read.
Picking a team to follow
A recurring use is people new to the sport who want a team without agonising over it. The wheel is a reasonable way to do that, and better than picking whoever won last season — you end up with a reason to watch games you would otherwise skip.
If you would rather narrow it first, delete the teams too far away to ever attend, then spin what is left.
Division and conference wheels
Thirty-two slices is more than the labels comfortably fit. Cutting to one conference gives sixteen, and a single division gives four — both far easier to read, and usually closer to what the draw is actually about.

Why are the labels shortened on the wheel?
